Quinta do Cardo
Quinta do Cardo belongs to the region of Beira Interior, a suburb of Castelo Rodrigo and is located in the vicinity of this village. The vineyards, cultivated at an average elevation of 750 meters above sea level, are protected by the Marofa and Castelo Rodrigo ranges and surrounded by the Douro, Coa and Águeda rivers.
With 180 hectares, of which 69 are of vineyard, all certified in biological production mode, the rest shelter an extensive reserve of cork oaks and spontaneous forest. The first vineyards were planted in 1932 and the recognition of the quality of the wines has been a constant throughout the years. Companhia das Quintas acquired the property in 2001 and maintained the undisputed quality of whites and showed the potential of quality red wines in the region. With an unusual style in Portugal, Quinta do Cardo's red wines have balsamic notes, great freshness and complexity.
