Casal Sta Maria
Casal Sta. Maria is located in the historic region of Colares, on the slopes of Sintra Hill, 2 km from Cabo da Roca − the most Western point in Europe. The wine production in our Quinta was interrupted at the beginning of the 20th century. After 100 years, we brought our vineyards back to life, modernized our cellar and produce red and white wines in a traditional way with high quality and national and international recognition.
Long before we planted our vineyards, we had several visits of world-knowned specialists. With their support we have then studied our soils and climate, so we could understand which were the most adapted varieties to our conditions. Our main goal was always to produce the very best wines. With strong Northern winds blowing from the Ocean and the granite outcrops, the vineyards get their comfort from the enriched soils from the times of the Arab Horses.
The Portugueses grape varieties chosen were Malvasia de Colares and Arinto. We also have Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Petint Manseng. As reds we have Touriga Nacional, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The last one with a remarkabler adaptation capability to our Colares climate.
