Ginja , also known as "Ginjinha" is a typical Portuguese liqueur obtained from the maceration of sour cherry fruit (similar to cherries). Very popular in Portugal, especially in Lisbon, Óbidos, Alcobaça and the Algarve, it is dark red in colour and can be available with the fruit in the bottle or not.

A liqueur with a strong flavour, intensely perfumed with the special bittersweet taste of sour cherries.
