Mouchão
Mouchão Wines From Herdade do Mouchão, approximately half of the grapes produced are Alicante Bouschet. In hot, dry climates, the Allicante Bouschet variety stands out. This noble grape variety appreciates deep, fertile and well-drained alluvial plains, as in the Mouchão floodplains. Other noble grape varieties such as Trincadeira, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Syrah benefit from the same climate, but on skeletal and gravelly soils.
The white grape varieties, Antão Vaz, Arinto and Verdelho, are mostly found on the slopes of the ‘Barragem do Mouchão’ and adjacent to the Almadafe and Jordana streams.
